2 lbs stewing beef
1/4 cup flour
1/4 tsp each thyme, basil, celery seed
1/8 tsp sage
1 1/4 tsp salt
1 pinch pepper
4 onions (sliced)
6 potatoes (thinly sliced or chunked)
2-4 cups carrots (sliced)
1 1/2 cups hot water
2 bouillon cubes or equivalent
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup dry wine
- Dredge the pieces of meat in the flour mixed with herbs and seasonings
- In a roasting pan or casserole dish with a tight lid, put layers of vegetables and meat
- Sprinkle on the seasoned flour left over and pour in the blended liquids
- Cover tightly and bake at 325 for 3-4 hours
